Having a local community space, especially during these times where it seems like everyone is stuck on their screens, is vital. Local communities provide support systems while strengthening the economy and improving quality of life. Characterized with rustic buildings, a wooded bike path along a scenic lake, there’s a unique charm to Tackett’s Mill that is infectious. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, Tackett’s Mill hosts a mixture of mom and pop stores, restaurants, and a few nationally known retailers, all coexisting in a nostalgic, timeless feel.

There are over 60 businesses and organizations within Tackett’s Mill. While many of these are specialty or niche businesses and organizations, their impact on the community has resonated.

Prince William Conservation Alliance Director Ashley Studholme

For example,The Prince William Conservation Alliance a nonprofit organization based in the Tackett’s Mill Center has dedicated their time to advocates for data center reform and protection of the Occoquan Reservoir. The reservoir is an important water source for nearly 1 million Northern Virginia residents. Then there’s also Literacy Volunteers of Prince William, which provides free instruction to help adults read.

Tackett’s Mill has provided a space for underrepresented small business owners to thrive, such as Edgemoor Art Studio, a woman-owned business that is atwo-time recipient of the Kathleen K. Seefeldt Award, which recognizes arts excellence and outstanding arts education. Also woman-owned, Akida Coffee specializes in delicious and authentic Turkish coffee.

We plan to not only highlight the shops in the center, but the people who run them. The blog will include practical local guides, lifestyle and culture stories, and even personal finance angles.

That’s why we’re here–to show you that Tackett’s Mill isn’t just a shopping center, it’s a place to reconnect, to learn, and to express your creativity, especially in the digital world we live in.

Happy reading!
